Forensic Mapping System
What is a Forensic Mapping System?

The Forensic Mapping System is used at Crash/Crime Scenes and other officially related investigations to electronically capture scene and evidence data.

These four components make up the Forensic Mapping System:
♦Total Station
♦Prism
♦Data Collection Device (can be onboard)
♦Mapping/Diagramming Software

There are some additional components that make the system complete.  The total station tripod provides a fixed base for mounting the total station.  The prism pole on the other hand provides a fixed prism support system and makes it easy for you to determine the prism/target height.  You also need a way to establish communication between the total station and the data collector.  In most cases this will be accomplished by using a cable but newer instruments and data collectors offer Bluetooth as an option.
