Kent E. Boots, ACTAR, has 18+ years of experience in Traffic Collision Investigation and Reconstruction, 14 of which were as an on-scene investigator for a major California Sheriff's Department. He has qualified and testified numerous times as an expert in traffic collision reconstruction at trial and depositions and is a court-recognized expert in forensic mapping, total station technology, and CAD scale diagrams including 3D diagrams. He owns and operates Kent E. Boots & Associates; providing forensic mapping, scale diagramming, and consulting services to various reconstruction firms.
He has been using CAD programs exclusively for over eleven years. He has received over 250 hours of training in forensic mapping and various CAD programs including ARAS 360, AutoSketch, CrashZone/CrimeZone, MapScenes, and Vista FX (Visual Statement). He is certified as a Forensic Mapping Specialist both with Leica and Sokkia Total Stations. He is a published author on the subject of Forensic Mapping and is a Professional Society of Forensic Mapping (PSFM) approved instructor.
He has taught all levels of collision investigation & reconstruction including Computer Aided Diagramming using AutoSketch and CrashZone/CrimeZone. He is a guest lecturer for the Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science, University of New Haven (CT). He was a part-time instructor for Santa Ana City College, and adjunct faculty member for Riverside Community College. He was also a part-time instructor for the Law Enforcement Training Division of the Office of the Sheriff of Contra Costa County. He is certified by CAD Zone as a Master Trainer in CrashZone/CrimeZone, FireZone, PocketZone, and QuickScene.
He is certified by the Bosch as a trainer for the CDR System Technician Course.

Mr. Boots has been a member of the California Association of Accident Reconstruction Specialists (CAARS) since March of 1999. He served on the Board of Directors from 2001 through 2010 and most recently served as the Chairperson. He has been the CAARS Training Coordinator since 2009. He is a full member of the Professional Society of Forensic Mapping (PSFM). He is also a member of the California State Division-International Association for Identification (CSDIAI), the International Association for Identification (IAI), the Northern California Fraud Investigators Association (NCFIA), the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and the Southwestern Association of Technical Accident Investigators (SATAI).
